Reporting volumes of data backed up on puredisk.

I need a solution

Hi,

I require the volumes of data backed up on my clients being backed up on PureDisk. At this point in time i am going into puredisk and bringing up each job one by one on the monitor tab, copying the 'Source bytes backed up' figure and pasting it into excel, sometimes adding more then one figure up to get a number per client.

Does PureDisk or some 3rd party program offer a reporting tool that could speed up this long winded process?

NetBackup PureDisk 6.6

I inherited this system and I'm not very familiar with PureDisk configuration.  The system has been up and running for two years and has rarely had issues.  Here is my issue.  I have a Data Removal policy, Time Based, set to remove data older than 45 days.  However, I only have 18 days worth of backups.  My first guess was lack of disk space?  High/Low water marks?  How do I determine at what point PureDisk starts deleting old backups?

My Capacity Dashboard shows

Content Router Capacity Report

Total disk space - 7.81TB and Used Disk Space 6.52.TB which is 83.41%

Metabase Engine Capacity Report

Current Usage 83.3208%

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.  I have a customer waiting for a file restore that I don't think I'm going to be able to recover.

Need help on how to fully uninstall Puredisk Agent. I already uninstalled Puredisk Agent 6.5 on the add/remove programs. I will then install Netbackup 7.1 client, but when running the installation, I got the message that puredisk agent is still installed so netbackup client installation won't continue. I tried to uninstall in the directory path C:\Program Files\Symantec\NetBackup PureDisk Agent\uninst.exe but did not uninstall at all. Had this error: could not uninstall the VxFI components of Snapshot Support. Uninstall was not completed successfully. But on some machines, when I had this scenario, I can uninstall puredisk well. Hoping for any advise can give. Thanks.

Dedup broke after 7.5.0 to 7.5.0.3 upgrade

Help. Symantec tech support is not providing any ideas or solutions.

We upgraded from 7.5.0 to 7.5.0.3 and during the upgrade process MSDP brroke.

The spoold, spad processes spawn. However, there is no listener on port 10082.

Poking around and googling led me to check the /usr/openv/lib/ost-plugins dir and I noticed the $HOSTNAME.cfg file was blown away.

Recreated the config from my coop server and the pool is still down.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Chris

I need a solution

We need to switch our backup SAN from Pillar (SAN01) to EMC (SAN02).

I was wondering if we could de-assign a LUN from a SAN (just said SAN01) on media server (just said media01).

And then assign a new LUN from another SAN (just said SAN02) on the media server media01.

We do not remove the images of media01 from the old LUN from SAN01 on the master server.

Then we use the new LUN on the SAN02 for a week.

Then we need to restore something from the old LUN on SAN01.

Can we unassigned the LUN from SAN02 and re-assign the LUN from SAN01 on media01 and be able to restore it ?

thanks

Difference between De-Duplication and incremental backup

Can someone explain the difference between De-Duplication and incremental backup ?

The incremental backup takes the changes from previous backup and it backs up the changed data and De-Duplication also does the same right ?

I need a solution

hi all.

Need an advice for the following.

We have an Netbackup setup with some MSDP pools .

We need to plan our deduplication pool sizes according with our disaster backup/restore scheme we have.

So at buiding a we have the "pud1"  server at buildingA ,with client data size (according to the client backup report) at about 7TB.

That building will do a "replicate" - optimized dedup- to the building B at server pud1B.

We have a third building with pud3 with client backups sized at 1.5TB.This one has to replicate to "pud1" at building A

All sizes are taken from full backup sessions.

at "pud1" have some 2Tb of db backups with dedup rate 65%.I undestand that those will need some additional space for one week retention (5 backups)

The main planning is to keep 1 week retension at disk and rehydrate to tape for longer retentions .

The question is what sizes the Disk dedup pools must have?

The Netbackup deduplication calculator gives some 6TB for pud1 and pud1b and some 2ΤΒ Max for pud3.

Is there any safe way to calculate the space?

PureDisk 6.6.3a with ET2657689-bundle_v6

I need a solution

Our PureDisk 6.6.0.3 with NetBackup 6.5.6 had been running very smoothly for 11 months, but since July we started having performance issues with a large backup of tlogs, Then the disk volume started going down because of space issues.  Support had me upgrade PD to 6.6.3a with ET2657689-bundle_v6 which was completed.  When the upgrade was completed, the SLPs were unable to write data to the storage units.  Support made a change to one of the programs.  The change made was "pddo" to "pddo_backup" and then data was being written to the disk pools.   I still think there is a programming issue, because space does not appear to be freed up when images expire.  I have been running commands to remove "orphan images" for the past eight weeks, trying to stay ahead of the curve.   Since I am not having any issues with the primary PD system, only the one that receives replicated images from SLPs. I know that NB 6.5.6 is reaching end-of-life, but I told support I was NOT going to create an opportuntiy to introduce additional problems with a NB upgrade.

Over the past 24 hours, I have expired 4126 backup images on the PD system with issues. Currently running the CR-Queue Processing command from the comand line prompt.   It will be very interesting to see how much if any space will be recovered.

Guys,

i have purdisk 6.6.1 PureDisk enviornment which is backing up 20 remote sites across Asia. I have a requirement to backup the clustered servers now.. i know how it works in Netbackup; you installed agent on both active and passive node and tell Netbackup the cluster name to back the cluster up. but how can we backup cluster in puredisk.. i have installed Puredisk agent on both active and passive node but during the install it runs the registration process and the client get registered with the node..

we can setup the backup on both nodes as they both using the shared storage and activate the bacukp only the ACTIVE node but that doesnt seem logical; if the cluster failover my backup would fail..

any suggesstion would be appreicated..
